On August 3rd, Andra and I left straight from work and drove to Lake Tahoe. The plan was to stay overnight in a hotel and leave early August 4th to beat the heat. Thursday morning we stopped at Andra's favorite breakfast place "Heidi's," to fill up on fruit and whip cream laden waffles. Having stuffed ourselves with scrambled eggs, waffles, and OJ, we drove to Emerald Bay.

We hiked in from the Eagle Falls trailhead at Emerald Bay to Dick's Lake in Desolation Wilderness. From the car to our base camp was just under five miles (See map below) The red flag near Eagle Falls indicates where we started and the flag near Dicks Lake indicates our base camp.
