Tour de Tahoe 2011

After missing the Tour de Tahoe bike tour two years in a row, Andra and I decided we'd make a serious effort to attend this year. The tour circles Lake Tahoe for a total of 71.5 miles and about 7000 feet of climbing.

Having not been able to maintain any kind of regular exercise program for nearly two years, we were really out of shape. With only 6 weeks left before the tour, I set up a bike training schedule that had us cycling four to five days a week. We clocked in between 150 and 175 miles a week often in the mountains with significant climbing. By the time the tour rolled around, we were in great shape.

The day before the Tour, we had planned on meeting Andra's kids in Tahoe to celebrate Andra's Birthday. A fire unexpectedly closed the highway and we ended up driving 3 hours to get around the mountain range that separates us. Thankfully the road was reopened that evening or we would have needed to get up terribly early to drive back to Tahoe in the morning. Enjoy the photos...
