Showers taken, prescription filled, and with food in our stomachs we decided to drive up HWY 395 to see the trailhead for our hike in October. The sun was breaking through onto the eastern mountain range and I was forced to pull over and snap a photo. The rain had started in some areas again, along with the requisite thunder. Now I started worrying about how Rick was doing.
You can see how dark it is getting to the west (right part of photo).
This is the road to Convict Lake. The trailhead we wanted to see is at the base of those mountains. The trail is rated a 5 on a scale of 1 to 5 for difficulty. Once we reached the trailhead, and we saw the mountains towering over us, we knew why. A sign posted there said the river was running very high and that the river crossing up trail was very dangerous. It recommended an alternate route in to the area. It also said that further up past the river, the trail was also washed out. After examining the alternate route on our way back to town, we decided that October was too far into winter to attempt this particular hike. So this trip will be rescheduled for another time.
