I took a second picture of the mountains before we left the parking lot. This is a very interesting area, and I'd certainly like to investigate it further.
The next day we estimated that Rick wouldn't come out before 2:30pm, so we spent the day driving around and site seeing. The prior night it poured like crazy, with intense thunder claps, so close and loud, it often took out our hotel TV signal for brief periods. All of this kept me wondering how Rick was doing. Fortunately there were many people there at the lake, so he wasn't by himself. This picture, shot looking north up HWY 395, shows the Minarets in the background.
A close-up view gives you a better look at the Minarets (spiked looking set of mountains in the middle). At just after 3pm, Rick stepped off the shuttle bus exhausted. We took him into town for some food and headed out during the typical evening thunderstorm. As we drove back to Sacramento, we saw many lightning strikes. One strike started a fire to the east of the highway. Fortunately it was pouring cats and dogs, so perhaps the fire got put out before the fire trucks got there. We arrived at Ricks place after 10pm and didn't get home until after 11pm. Emergency not withstanding we had a great time and I look forward to our next trip August 17th. I hope you enjoyed the photos and will return for our next adventure. |
