Another shot of the strange plant. This plant is a Wild Carnivorous Cobra Plant. You can find more details and pictures here. Basically this plant lures insects into the hollow leaves where bacteria in the water held in this cavity breaks down the victim. The plant absorbs the results. Sounds just lovely, doesn't it?
On the way out, Andra spotted this Grouse. If you mouse over the photo, you'll get a closer look. This particular area is a very diverse forest. There was a high variety of trees and other plants. We saw berry bushes, flowering plants that looked like a raspberry was growing in the flower, and Andra even found a small scorpion! (Which she in turn threw at Dave's tent when it started to run along the piece of wood she used to carry it on.) Granted, if we examine all the possible areas she could have flung the scorpion, Dave's tent seems like a much better choice than ours in the grand scheme of things. (Dave's assessment may differ slightly)
Looking back down the valley toward our camp, the smoke rolls in from the nearby fire. Our high vantage point allows us to see just how socked in with smoke the local area has become. It was great timing to head to the coast. |
