The video above explains a bit about our plans and the packing process.

After leaving our driveway, the winds were not too bad until we hit HWY 208. By then we were already facing 20MPH headwinds. I normally descend Jack Wright Pass at over 35 MPH without peddling. When we crested the top and started down, the winds were so strong that even peddling, I could not get over about 20MPH going down hill. When the highway flattened out, my speed dropped into the single digits.

We fought wind gusts in excess of 35 MPH all the way through Gardnerville until we finally capitulated and stopped in Kit Carson Valley for the night. Twice in the last few hundred feet before we stopped, I was nearly knocked over by strong gusts. Friday was a terrible day for biking. The video above is from inside our tent after a herculean 4 hours 34 minutes of battling mother nature.

The next morning a new problem arose - rain. Fortunately it was only sprinkling and it stopped shortly before we climbed out of the tent. It was already breezy as we packed up our camp. Our original intent was to camp in Hope Valley not Kit Carson Valley. There were clouds creeping over Carson pass and it appeared to be raining up there. Once we reached Hope Valley, I decided we should stop and wait an hour to see if the weather was going to improve or get worse. For you weather forecasters out there, all I can say is, "Mostly sunny my ass." This video was shot from where we intended to camp had the winds not crushed us into submission.
