The beauty of backpacking is the challenge. When things go haywire, you have only what you brought with you and your wits (some people only have what they brought with them). Nonetheless, overcoming unexpected conditions, equipment failures, injuries, etc. are all part of what I really enjoy about backpacking. The movie above covers an unexpected failure of our water containers. I mention in the video that the Camelbak is 15 years old. In fact, one is 20 years old and the other 13 years old. Should these have proved to be unrepairable, we also carry a Nalgene bottle, two mugs, and a pot. So there is never any danger of being without water containers.
If I had a nickel for ever BS excuse people have given me for why they won't go backpacking with us, I'd be a Trillionaire. One of the most common moronic and ignorant excuses I've heard is that, "I can't go eight days without a shower." As I say in the movie above, only an idiot would go eight days without a shower. Watch and learn...
You may have noticed that during the prior video, I was being swarmed by mosquitoes. You may be wondering what happens when you get naked and start washing all your DEET off with soap and water. In this movie Andra will clear that up for you. Remember - stay on the path and keep your mind as pure as the water...
