The last method for making fire without matches takes even more preparation and work. Here I am cutting a flat piece of wood out of a dry limb with my hand saw. Many of you may ask, "How would you do all this if you didn't have a saw or tools?" It gets extremely difficult without any tools whatsoever; however, with just a good knife you could do everything I did here - it would just take a bit longer. Anyone going into the backcountry without a knife is insane. A knife is so critical that I lack the appropriate adjectives to describe how important it is to have, and how moronic it would be to go without one. |
