The next day we pressed on toward Wood Lake (above). We originally planned to camp here and then day hike to Karl Lake, but we ran into a backpacker leaving the area who said Wood Lake was packed with campers dropped by the pack station. When we mentioned Karl Lake, he told us it was spectacular and there were no campers there. After talking to him we decided that we'd hike past Wood Lake directly to Karl. It wasn't much farther and he turned out to be right - at least at first. |

This is Karl Lake. Karl Lake had many rock islands throughout. Our tired crew, after being baked in the sun over many unshaded trail miles, stripped down and dove in for a nice bath. Click here to see the skinny dipping pictures. |
