As we continue to lose elevation on our approach to Spicer Meadow Reservoir, the creek emerges from underground and is flowing more and more. I tell Dawg to go down for a drink. He goes down but turns right around without drinking. He is not thirsty enough to risk drinking. Weird? Not really. |

I tell him again to go and get water. He goes down and turns back again. Australian Cattle Dogs are very attached to their owner/family. Unless very thirsty, he will not stop to drink if he thinks we might press on. I am well aware of this behavior and make special accommodations to make sure he stays hydrated. |

I walk down off the trail to the waters edge. He immediately walks into the stream and starts a long drink. Many dogs breeds are compelled to say with their owners and will drop dead trying to keep up with you. Cyclists and marathon runners with dogs have run dogs to death. He's your best friend, try to mentally walk in his shoes. |
