We caught a few water foul enjoying the lake as we arrive. Since our original plan was to hike down into that valley and explore the lakes, we had a lot of time left on our hands. After some discussion, we decided to break camp and head for Evelyn Lake. We figured this would break up the long hike down into Lyell Canyon.

That's me in the distance snapping photos. We have come down from Vogelsang Lake past the high sierra camp and Fletcher Lake, and continue our ascent toward Evelyn.

The mountains at this altitude still have quite a bit of snow. Remember, this area got about 200% of normal snowfall last winter, so seeing this much snow in September is not too surprising.
