Here is a picture of both lakes. In that valley in the center, there are two other lakes (not shown). The trail takes you down around Gallison and Bernice and we contemplated hiking down there, but decided our view from up here wasn't so poor as to lose thousands of feet of elevation to get closer. (This page will take the longest to download. There are five photos.)
The winds were so bad; I nearly lost my hat several times while trying to take this photo.
Before we left the 40MPH winds for our camp, I shot one last picture of Radar. Nothing like this in Ottumwa Iowa I reckon.
On the way back, we went off trail to get a shot of our resident marmot. Marmots (large ground squirrels) tend to live in mountainous areas such as the Sierra Nevada's in the United States or the European Alps. Marmots typically live in burrows, and hibernate there through the winter. Most marmots are highly social, and use loud whistles to communicate with one another, especially when alarmed. Many historians suggest that marmots, rather than rats, were the primary carriers of the Bubonic plague during several historic outbreaks. Groundhogs are also marmots. |

We followed the snowmelt creek down from the pass to our camp.
