On day two (Thursday) we decide to hike to Half Dome and back. The trail to Half Dome is the only trail listed as extremely difficult. The round trip distance is seventeen miles with a 4800 foot elevation gain. There are very few spots on the trail where you are walking on level ground. We got up at sunrise and hit the trail by about 8:00am.
Here we are at Nevada Falls. This is about 3.3 miles from the trailhead and we have already climbed over 1900 ft elevation (5900ft).

At the very edge of Nevada Falls' (594' drop) I took this picture back toward the Yosemite Valley.
