We've arrived at Mono Lake and decided to take the trail through the tufa.

All those tufa formations were once underwater before the Los Angeles water hogs drained the lake to it's present level.  The water is so salty now that it is beginning to affect the wildlife.  They have stopped diverting water from the lake and hope to bring the level up to improve conditions.
