Thankfully this small heard continued to ignore us until we left. The Bison, having been slaughtered for their hides, were nearly extinct with only about 800 wild Bison remaining from the estimated 60 million that once roamed from Mexico to Canada. Today, Yellowstone supports the largest wild herd of bison at nearly 3500 animals.
