Battery Mishler is the only facility of its kind open to the public in the United States. At the beginning of WWII, the pits were covered over and it wasn’t until the end of the war that the guns were removed. Battery Mishler had circular gun pits with 360-degree fields of fire.

Battery 245 was armed with two 6-inch rifles on Barbette or pedestal type mounts. The bunker was built to be completely self-contained with power and other requirements built in so that it could continue to operate under poison gas attack.

The more modern guns installed later at Battery 245.
