The Morgue. The undertaker in Bodie must have been a rich man.
This large wooden structure is called a Head Frame, although it is sometimes referred to as a "gallows frame." It was the head frame for the hoisting works of the Red Cloud Mine and formerly stood over the ridge southeast of town. Beneath it are the Red Cloud's steam hoist and air compressor.
The town of Bodie is a fascinating place and I'd highly recommend it to anyone wishing to see some of California's history.
