Here, we've hiked over to the General Sherman Tree. These pictures don't do it justice. The size of this tree is just incredible. This is the largest living thing on Earth.
Here are all the stats on the General Sherman Tree. Giant sequoia's are very fast growing trees. This tree adds enough wood each year to make a one foot diameter, fifty foot tall tree. Imagine planting a tree in your backyard and having it a foot thick and fifty feet tall in one year! This tree lost a limb during an extreme storm last winter. The limb is much bigger than the trunks of most trees, including large oaks. We saw the evidence of this bad storm during our hikes. Healthy trees were sheared off at their midpoints. In some areas it looked like a bomb went off.

Here is another shot of the General Sherman Tree. There are actually tiny little people to the left of the base. After exploring the touristy stuff, we decided to head back a day early and relax.

We plan a bit of day hiking around Andra's birthday, but our next backpacking trip isn't until September. Until then, enjoy the photos.

Mike.
