The first day in Hawaii we went to sleep early (Hawaii time) and got up early for a free orientation breakfast. After the buffet style breakfast we took the bus to Diamond Head. The hike to the top was warm and sticky. It involved walking through dark tunnels and up a spiral staircase. Many fellow hikers were not prepared with water or the proper footwear, but this one woman took the cake for daring. She hiked all the way to the top in high heels! This picture shows Waikiki Beach in the upper right corner.
Looking back at the crater of Diamond Head. The Diamond Head crater was created from a brief eruption about 300,000 years ago. Boooom... The saucer-shaped crater covers 350 acres.
We attended the requisite Luau in the evening and these colorful performers were part of the entertainment.
