The beginning of my trek. This is the stream leaving the Lilly Lake. Remember this photo. You'll see another shot of the Lilly Lake after I've hiked some distance into Desolation Wilderness. This stream eventually empties into Falling Leaf Lake after a small water fall some quarter mile behind me.
This is the first water fall you hit on the trail. It only takes about twenty five minutes to get here from the trailhead, but the walk is awful. The trail is actually a road covered with large rocks. Fortunately the road ends after about thirty minutes into the hike. If you haven't twisted your ankle when you reach the end, you've done well.

Here is a good look at some of the landscape in Desolation Wilderness. Much of the surface is shear granite. It's a wonder anything can grow here.
