July 3rd Andra and I explored the area around Burney Falls.   Burney Falls is 129ft high and approximately 100 million gallons of water flows over the falls each day.  The water flow is fairly constant year round because the falls are fed by underground streams.  The porous basalt rock allows snow melt to be stored underground in the surrounding area.  Lava tubes carry additional water below the creek surface.  As you can see, the entire side of the cliff is leaking.  The temperature of the pool at the bottom of the falls is between 42 and 48 degrees.   More on basalt rock can be found at the USGS .

Andra snapped this amazing picture of the falls.

We have walked around next to the falls and are looking back across the creek at the trail.
