As the sun set, the temperatures dropped precipitously. By 8:30pm the temperature had dropped to 25 degrees and we decided to abandon the fire and retreat to the tent. I checked the telemetry data at Tuolumne Meadows for the past several days before our trip. Night time temperatures were commonly in the twenties with one night hitting sixteen. Knowing that the first few nights we'd be staying more than one thousand feet higher than Tuolumne Meadows, we were prepared to meet the Abominable Snowman, and the infamous Yeti! The heat waves from the fire caused the wrinkling affect on our faces and jackets. |
