Roosevelt Elk were all over the place. With a large no hunting State Park reserve, the elk population is huge. If it looks like this picture was taken from about 35ft, that's because it was. The elk pretty much ignored everyone. This fellow was one of the larger elk near the beach.
The next day we headed home and found HWY 299 closed due to the fire. We continued down Highway 1 until we reached Highway 101. Amazed at this new bridge being built on 101, we pulled over to get some photos. I believe this is about half way between Andersonia and Leggett.
Amazing that the center section is not connected on either end. Looking at the original high resolution photo, you can see equipment and portable toilets on the top. How would you like to work on that?

Looking down the river you can see HWY 101 at the top. The new bridge is directly to the left on the other side of the river. This will be a major change to the road once the bridge is completed.
