Snow can still be seen at the top of some of the mountains. We had a very wet spring in the Sierras. Some areas were nearly double the normal snow pack.
We continue along the crest with spectacular views in every direction.
This pile of once molten rock is amazing. I would love to have been around to see it bubbling out of the ground. This is right near our two day camp spot. The lake unfortunately had dried to a few yellow water filled ponds. The fogs and pollywogs really seemed to enjoy them, so how bad could they be? We got a fire built and shower water going before Dave arrived. I had predicted we would see no more than one other person during our trip. We ran into a hiker today and now my prediction was at risk. He was one of the crazies hiking the entire route. He started in Mexico, hiked until the snow melted in the north and then skipped over this section to Sierra City. He then continued from there to Canada. Once reaching Canada, he return (not by foot) to Sierra City and was hiking South to cover the short middle section he had missed. We stopped to talk to him and he told us he had covered 2350 miles of the PCT so far with only 300 miles to go. Better him than me. :) |
