Once Andra started across the river, I began filming the movie above. You can see that the water depth is reasonable and how effective trekking poles are at maintaining your balance and footing. | ||
There are beautiful granite mountain tops, including the Sawtooth Ridge in these mountains. Only the highest points were showing any snow. We've started our ascent to Fremont Lake after crossing the river. Unfortunately, I don't know the official name of this peak. |

I'd tell you we were the first to arrive at Fremont Lake this year, but unfortunately one million mosquitoes arrived ahead of us. The spring and summer are not fun from a mosquito prospective. I think it has been so long since we did an early spring or summer hike that Andra forgot what it was like. One thing I should also mention is that we saw one bear crap after another all the way up the trail from Leavitt Meadow. These were fresh (less than day old) piles. Bears were definitely active in the area. Andra didn't think to take any photos of them and then spent the rest of the trip trying to find a "good" bear poop to photograph. After several days of complaining about the consistency/dryness of various older poops we ran across, I had to laugh. I said, "You're the only woman I know that would search the wilderness trying to find a good bear poop to photograph." |
