A picture of the group on the lower section of the trail to Lassen Peak. | ||
This is Helen Lake from the trail. This photo and the one below are quite interesting. This photo was shot with my 35mm camera (ancient film technology) and the photo below with Andra's new digital. The color accuracy of the digital is a bit off. Although the digital picture is stunning, it has way too much blue. Notice even the rocks look blue. This makes the sky and mountains look great, but trees are dark and in some ways the lighting looks somewhat overcast. Andra was using the scenery setting and in a later photo turned that off by accident. Although the picture without this setting was less blue, it too, was bluer than a similar picture from my camera. The ancient film camera's picture looks more like what we actually saw. However, it is unknown how much color correction was done by Ritz when they made the print. Since my photos here are scanned from a print, I have to admit that the native digital photo has equal if not better detail when posting in an electronic format like this. However, enlargements from the 35mm negative will look much cleaner than from the digital source. Not only does the film capture greater detail than the 4 megapixel camera, it doesn't contain the digital picture's compression artifacts. As an experiment, I tried color correcting the photo below with good success. I added more red (less cyan) and more yellow (less blue). The result looked very similar to my picture above. |
