Here we are at the trailhead. We're late. Way late. It's already just after 4pm. We should have started hiking more than two hours ago. This late in the year, the days are already getting short and we have more than five miles with heavy packs to walk.

With eight days worth of provisions, the first day of hiking is always slow going. Add to that a lack of familiarity with the area, and you go even slower. If that weren't enough, my GPS unit died before we left. I grabbed the old GPS but forgot how much the technology improved over the years. The old GPS was constantly losing contact with the satellites and would update so slowly it was difficult to tell where you were heading. This is one reason it took a bit longer than it should have to find the trailhead.

Using the map (in my left hand), and relying on our eyes to keep us on the trail and heading in the right direction, we headed out from the truck.

A weather system was moving in and was supposed to generate some rain on Saturday. Again, I've stitched two photos together to give you a look to the southeast. We're far from the car, and the cloud cover and setting sun is cooling the air temperature.

This pyramid looking peak caught our eye as we continued toward Cora Lake.
