We returned to Leighton Lake intending to continue around the opposite side of both Leighton and Karl in a complete loop before returning to camp. I'm currently looking North across Leighton Lake. Perhaps this lake was named after a family member of my friend Joe Leighton? We also discovered an old rock dam at the exit stream of Leighton Lake. Clearly this dam was built many years ago before the region got its wilderness designation. | ||
The following day the entire crew decided to make a loop around Buck Lakes and that's when we started running into the many campers surrounding Buck and Wood Lakes. This is the upper part of Wood Lake as we made our way toward Buck Lake. |

Here we are at one of the Buck Lakes. The water here was much deeper than Karl. The ranger told us the fishing was incredible at Buck Lake; however, every hiker carrying a fishing pole told us they were catching fish everywhere but Buck Lake. Coincidence or government conspiracy? |
