Today we decided to hike to Fern Falls in Jedediah Smith Redwoods. Note for those who write trail books and outdoor texts, this is NOT a "40ft free falling waterfall." This is a 40ft cascade dribbling down a few rocks. If I had a nickel for every time some numb nuts described a cascade as a waterfall, I'd be a billionaire. Yet that is how our trail book described it. It was a complete waste of a walk if it weren't for the needed exercise. |

Just before reaching the falls, you run into the Boy Scout Tree. So named because the Boy Scouts built the trail to it. It is described as the largest tree in the local forest; however, that is also false. It is two trees that have grown together at the base. |
