From Middle Falls we ventured on to Shasta itself. Trying to find the correct forest road took us nearly an hour as we drove up and down the highway passing the road multiple times. Unfortunately, the forest road number we had was not posted on the road anywhere we could see. After giving up trying to find it, I turned off to explore one of the roads we found regardless of where it went. To our surprise, we discovered later we were on the correct road when we spotted the turn for another road in our directions. We've now turned off the main paved road onto this dirt logging road. We were headed for the Brewer Creek Trailhead. Although this part of the road was very well maintained, it did not remain so as we started to climb the base of the mountain.

At 7200 feet we had reached the end of the road and parked the car. Andra and I hiked a mile or so up the trail to try to find a clear shot of the mountain. The temps had changed dramatically from the warm tee-shirt weather at Middle Falls. We had driven through some light snow on the dirt road to reach the trailhead and the snow continued to thicken as we hiked up in elevation.

Andra got this great photo of snow being blow off the top of Mt. Shasta.
