We pull to the side to allow Dave and George to fish a deep pool.
You may be wondering why I'm generally paddling perpendicular to the river flow. In fact, we rarely paddled down river with the exception of one day near the end of the trip. This is a float, so spending all day paddling was not part of the plan. In addition, in order to see I either need to be sideways or facing down river. My job is to stay in the fast moving water and avoid obstacles. Going down sideways is generally the most effective way to steer around snags and dangerous spots.
As you can see we've left the mountains and are in much flatter terrain.
