In contrast to our normal adventures where we have to carry all our gear, floating it down a river feels like the pinnacle of laziness.

The further we went, the terrain around us began to flatten out. Had we run the Aniak River as we originally planned, we would have spent a bit more time in the mountains.

Dave and George look for the best way through the obstacles. Sweepers (trees cutting across the river horizontally) are one of the most dangerous obstacles on the river. If you can't navigate around them, you must either port out and cut the tree, or worse, unload the rafts and walk around. The massive pressure exerted by the river can crush you and the raft under the sweeper and potentially pin you underwater with no hope of escape.
