When you reach a one lane highway where people drive like maniacs with your untrained mongrel that thinks commands are a suggestion and make your teenage kids look well behaved - you leash them up and drag them down the road by their necks like felon democrats caught ballot stuffing an election.
Fortunately, Dawg walks where I tell him, and when I hear a car, if he doesn't get off the pavement and into the woods automatically, I direct him to do so. We have to walk the highway for 1.5 miles before we reach an old wagon trail, now converted to a 4WD trail. This extreme 4WD road runs from HWY4 to Lower Blue Lake.
From Hwy 4 (also known as Ebbetts Pass), you can see Bull Rock in the distance!
