We are now turning straight down into the valley. We plan to camp a few miles behind me.
Last year in this area, somehow Dawg bent one of his toenails at a 90 degree. He started limping, and we stopped to see what happened. He had crushed a claw on his back foot right at the quick. I was forced to use the wire-cutters on my multi-tool to cut the nail off. This prompted me to add his nail cutters to our first aid kit this year. My multi-tool worked, but it was awkward and not nearly as sharp as the dog-specific tool. This is the downside of having a super high-energy and powerful dog. They accelerate and turn at ridiculous speeds, and their bodies are not always capable of surviving the forces involved.
After making camp, we settle in for a game of chess. My student is getting better every day. So who is doing better in this position? I'm proud to say my student is! Our plan was to practice every day as the June tournament we signed up for is approaching fast.
