The tent has been deployed with heavy granite stones covering the upwind stake locations. Dawg carefully watches a gentleman from the UK set up his tent a few hundred yards away. He came over to talk to us and Dawg tried to run him off. When hiking the PCT, we see hikers every few minutes it seems and many want to pet Dawg. Unless they come around a corner unexpectedly, Dawg is very happy to see them. However, that all changes as soon as we drop our packs and put up the tent. Once the tent is up, every living creature must be run out of town, as this is "his new home." When people wish to approach our camp, I always have to call him back and tell him to chill out. Once in camp and visiting, he's his normal loveable self. I guess I can't fault him for being a herding dog who's primary goal is to protect the family. Basic instincts built into your DNA are hard to overcome.
The last of the beautiful colors at sunset.
Another beautiful morning. Time to get a healthy dose of blackberry pancakes down our gullets before the calisthenics begin. |
