We've reached a meadow with the creek you saw earlier winding through. We've already climbed 1,800 vertical feet from Mono Creek and my heavy pack has taken a toll. We stop by the creek to eat and rest. Here I stare into the clear waters and relax from the herculean effort. Before the day is over we'll climb nearly 3,400 vertical feet over about 10 miles. With only about 4.5 miles behind us, the task ahead fully sinks in while I rest.

Dawg's pack is also nearly full as we had just been resupplied two days earlier and you may be wondering how the toughest day of our trip is impacting him. After miles of intense climbing over rocky and steep terrain, this video shows the devastating impact.

To be young again! This creek level view from about where I was sitting was a nice spot to rest and contemplate strangling Dawg in his sleep!
