The rocky terrain is exhausting. We take breaks to talk with a few other backpackers we meet heading the other way. They inquire about good spots to camp as the climb the opposite direction is even worse than what we are enduring. We met a man and his son from Hungary. They were on day 10 and planned two more nights before exiting near North Lake where we came in. During this trip we met people from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the Netherlands, India, etc. I couldn't help but remark to Andra that people spend huge amounts of money and effort to travel here to see these magnificent views, and I can't get people within two hours drive to unplug from the boob tube for a one day stroll! Shame! Shame!
This section of the trail is heavily overgrown with manzanita. The trail gets so narrow, Dawg literally had to push his backpack through the brush in some sections.
Unfortunately the broken rock trail continues without end, and I worry how my silent little buddy is doing on this long segment. We have been hiking for miles and still have many miles to go.
