In this video I explain why we didn't cross the river with packs and some river crossing safety tips. |

This is one of the arms of Cascade Creek. The creek is running a tremendous amount of water as you will see in later photos. However, before the creek reaches the Walker River, it fans out into more than half a dozen smaller channels. This is just one of them entering the river. | ||
On our lazy recovery day, we scout the river above where Cascade Creek intersects for a safer point to cross. Crossing where the trail normally crosses is just not good for Andra or the Dawg with the above average river flow. Unfortunately, this means we need to hike back through the forest on the opposite side of the river where no trail exists and there is heavy brush and downed trees near the river. It also means we must cross Cascade Creek to get back to the trail. As I mentioned earlier, Cascade Creek fans out near the river. So the good news is that this reduces the water flow and pressure in each channel, but the bad news is we have to cross channel after channel before we can get out of our crappy water shoes and back into our hiking boots. |
